Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect at my consultation?

You will be asked to fill out a pre-travel questionnaire prior to seeing the doctor. To speed up the process, the questionnaire is available to download from this site, and you are encouraged to fill it out before coming for your appointment. Your doctor will then review your vacation plans and your health history and then advise you on what steps you should take prior to travel.

If required, medications can be prescribed and vaccinations given at recommended intervals. The process takes about half an hour.

Why do I have to pay?

Many services are not covered by the Alberta Health Insurance Plan. You may have a private insurance company to reimburse you for your costs. Please save all receipts and check with your insurance company where applicable.

How long before travel should I see the Travel Clinic?

As soon as possible. Many vaccinations will require a series of shots which can take months to complete. If you can’t book well in advance, it is still worth seeing us, as there are many things that can be done for the last minute traveller.

Can't I just get what my friend got when they went on holiday?

Don’t count on it. We all have different health histories, and these can change the recommendations that are individual to you. Bring a list of your medications and past vaccinations to your consultation.
